Frequently Asked Questions

Is Liberty Investigations, Inc. licensed?

Yes! We are licensed as an Investigations Company by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Regulatory Services Division. Our Texas license number is A11211. We are also insured for your protection and as required by law.

Can Liberty Investigations get any information I ask for?

No. Unlike some of the more “questionable” investigators, we abide by the laws of the state and federal government. We are also limited by the availability of information and ethical considerations.

How does surveillance work?

This could be a whole page by itself! Here’s the short version – Surveillance usually consists of one or two investigators in vehicles. Most cases are a combination of stationary and mobile surveillance in that we follow a subject to various locations. We use video, with time and date stamp, to document all activity possible. Additionally, we record video upon our arrival on the scene, hourly during surveillance when there is no activity and at the time our departure. We do our VERY BEST to identify vehicles of people who meet with the subject, video record all activity by the subject and his/her associates, maintain visual sight of subject, their location or vehicle, and not be detected. Surveillance dates and times are based on information you provide regarding the subject of the investigation. We work closely with you to assess the best possible time to conduct surveillance. How much notice do you need to do surveillance?

If you are a new client and this is a new case, we usually plan at least one week in advance. Once a case is established we can usually schedule surveillance within a few days.

What is included in a background check?

There are many types of background checks. The information included and scope of the research depends on your specific needs. Most background checks include a minimum of personal/business identifiers, alias names, historical addresses, and civil and criminal history in the subject’s current county of residence/business location. Additional information often requested includes business affiliations or professional licenses, asset research such as property or vehicle ownership, marriage/divorce searches, bankruptcy, federal civil & criminal, liens, judgments, and county level searches in prior counties or states of residence.

How much does an investigator cost?

The cost of an investigation will always depend on a variety of factors including the scope, timing and potential expenses of the case. We work together with you to assess the needs of your specific case along with your financial considerations to come up with the best plan for you.

Are there hidden fees?

The only hiding we are doing is on surveillance. There are sometimes expenses associated with investigations such as court copies, travel expenses, database expenses, etc. These are openly discussed during consultation so there are no surprises when it comes to cost. Does Liberty Investigations offer flat rate services? Flat rate services are sometimes offered for certain types of background checks or stationary surveillances when the parameters are very specific. Our experience has proven there are too many unknown variables in surveillance and research to broadly offer flat rates. However, we will ALWAYS work efficiently, within your budget, to provide the most comprehensive information possible. We often work in stages… “let’s start with X, see what we get and then we’ll talk about Y.”

Is there a minimum cost for an investigation?

There is no minimum for research. However, surveillance and court appearances require a four hour minimum per trip.

Do you offer “standby” service?

In some situations we will offer to be on “standby” for surveillance or court appearances. In this situation, we are not "on site" at a location but are available and ready to go at your instruction. Standby rates are discounted to $75.00 per hour.

How is payment arranged?

Payments are accepted by cash, check or money order. We do not accept credit cards.

Do you require a retainer?

Yes, we work similarly to attorneys in that way. Based on the information you provide us, we work together to establish a reasonable retainer amount to begin the investigation. Our services are then billed against the retainer.

Is my unused retainer refundable?

Absolutely! You worked hard for your money and we do not want to keep money we did not earn. If the investigation is completed sooner than anticipated or costs less than estimated, your retainer will be refunded.

Are results guaranteed?

Specific results or favorable outcomes cannot be guaranteed as we cannot make a person do something at the exact moment we are watching them. Nor can we make a person have a criminal history he or she does not have, etc. We are committed to conducting an honest and prudent investigation and will use our expertise to provide you with the best service possible.

Is my information kept confidential?

YES! Information you provide us and investigation results are kept confidential. We require written authorization from you or a court order to disclose any information to a third party.

Why should I hire Liberty Investigations instead of trying to get this information myself?

Oh good, another easy one…. Remember earlier when I mentioned that sometimes we ALL need the help of an EXPERT? The experts at Liberty Investigations are proficient at conducting a more thorough investigation than you might be able to do on you own. We have access to specialized databases of information and have relevant knowledge and experience that will save you time and money in the end. Additionally, as licensed professionals, the evidence we collect carries a higher degree of credibility and is admissible in court.
